History of the Celebration

In 1993, the US Army Corps of Engineers, in an effort to recognize Scouting's contribution to the Barren River District, decided to sponsor a celebration for all scouts in the area. The Corps endeavored to host a jamboree-style activity with competitions and fellowship. Encouraged by its initial success, the Corps has continued to sponsor this celebration of scouting which has grown to be one of the premier events in the region with more than 700 participants.

The Barren River Lake Scout Celebration is an event like no other. With the exception of food and travel expenses, there are no charges for the weekend activity. The event patch and all awards are provided by private sponsors.

In 2023, The Friends of Barren River added the Scout Celebration to their list of sponsored activities.  This is an exciting change to help bring more exposure to the Barren River area, conservation projects around the lake and activities that help fund the different projects.  One goal is to increase scout participation in these projects and activities.  Now that this activity is part of the Friends of Barren Rive, the Scout Celebration is better prepared to be an ongoing event with leadership and volunteers.
