Gateway

The gateway will be judged on the following:

  1. MATERIALS USED: The amount of original, natural, and recycled materials utilized will bring a higher score to your gateway.

  1. UNIT FLAG(S) AND/OR NUMBER: It is essential that the judges know whose gateway they are judging. It also shows scout honor to display your flag(s) and unit number.

  1. SAFETY: Please remember that safety is an important part of scouting. Is the gateway constructed so that it cannot fall? Is there anything on the gateway that could fall off? Are there sharps objects or other items on which a person could be hurt?

  1. SCOUT SKILLS: Knots, lashings, other skills and improvised items should be utilized in the construction.

  1. PRESENTATION: A written narrative OR Scout to give an oral narrative of how the gateway design came to be a gate and why those specific elements were used. (Elements being the material, flags, statements and other items in the gateway.)

  1. PARTICIPATION: The gateway judging will include the participation in construction of the following:

    1. Design – To be developed by the Scouts. This can be revealed in the presentation.

    1. Frame – Constructed by Scout leaders and Scout parents of the unit.

    1. Materials – To be attached to the gateway by the lower ranked Scouts of the unit.

    1. Unit Flag(s) and/or Numbers – To be attached to the gateway by the highest ranked Scouts of the unit.

Note: In the event the unit has only one rank of younger Scouts, the Scouters may assist in their duties. This applies but not limited to: Brownie/Junior, Tiger/Wolf and Scout/Tenderfoot.

  1. PHOTOS: Please include photos showing Scout and Scouter involvement on ALL pre-builds.

  1. This year’s theme should be viewed and defined to the unit’s best idea.
